Author: Abbie St. Claire
Genre: Erotic Romance
Publish Date: August 12, 2014
Publisher: Southern Ink Press
A fifth-year surgical resident who only has time for her new career…
A talented heart surgeon who’s just returned from Doctors Without Borders and wants to make time for romance…
A relationship that can’t possibly get off the ground…or can it?
Quinn Ross has only a couple of months left of her residency in Houston before she takes her boards and joins a prestigious heart surgeon in Dallas. When she gets a serious case of pneumonia and becomes a patient herself, she meets Dr. Roman Burke.
Roman found his love in Doctors Without Borders and made a career out of helping those less fortunate, especially small children in places like Haiti. Roman hid his heart under a magnificent tattoo for a very private reason and when Quinn thinks she’s found the reason…she’s misled and very wrong, making a wild move which leaves her feelings and her heart locked away.
Can they find they find their way back to each other?
I was in the kitchen getting a couple of bottles of water from the fridge when I heard the bathroom door open. He appeared wearing loose-fitting running shorts, a tight T-shirt with the arms removed, and a ball cap turned backwards.
Sexy as hell.
I’m quite certain my chin hit the floor. He looked like a jock who’d just stepped off the practice field.
“Are you okay?” he asked while approaching me with his typical sexy swagger.
“Yes, hmm, I was getting us some…”
His lips were all over me—my mouth, down my neck, on the curve of my breast through my T-shirt.
He picked me up in his arms. “Which room?”
“Last door on the left,” I said, unable to resist him as he carried me down the hall.
He sat me on the bed, walked away, and returned with his bag.
I looked at it on the floor then back up to his face, giving him a frown. “You got an ax in that bag or something?” I giggled.
“Something like that,” he uttered with a chuckle.
His house was so insulated there was no noise from outside. The only sound was the thunderous beating of my heart and the blood roaring through my ears…and the heavy breathing—from both of us.
“God, what are you doing to me?” he uttered.
“Me? You started this, remember?”
“Yes, and I’m so glad I did.” With his hands threaded in my hair, he moved us backward until we tumbled down on the bed. He loved me with passion and pleased me with every move. He made sure my needs were met repeatedly.
“I know that tone. What did he do?” Angela asked.
I told them the story about the waterfall and the sounds and how he’d shifted to get comfortable on my pillow. When I got to the part about what I’d said and how he didn’t respond, Angela shook her head.
“You put a label on it too quick. Hot boy is gonna run. You just watch.”
There it was. Truth. I broke girl code. Yep, I tried to put a label on it. Not on purpose, mind you, but wishing I could take the words back wasn’t going to rewind time.
Men liked to control what a relationship was or wasn’t. They were the ones who wanted to be the first to call a girl a girlfriend. Girls were supposed to wait on guys. It was clearly okay to just exist, but the minute a girl defined or declared it was a relationship, if the guy wasn’t ready, he would bail. It’d been proven over and over.
1. Ten things you have in your purse right now?
Oh god, I carry a big bag, you want just 10? Okay, lipstick, lip gloss in several shades (sparkly of course), sunglasses, USB drive, leather bound journal, pens, Advil, earrings, spare keys, necklace, portable computer mouse.
2. What do you think makes the best love interest (man or woman)? Physical and/or personality traits?
Hmm, great question. We all shop with our eyes and for most of us that would be seeing the person first, but its personality traits that define character and therefore my answer would have to be personality traits.
3. Ten pieces of advice that you would tell the “teen” you?
Wow, this could fun. Let’s see, I would definitely say:
Don’t wait so long for that first sexual experience (waiting is over-rated), but make him work for it and make it good.
Avoid the salt, save it for when I’m old
Be yourself, don’t try to be the pack (after high school, most of the pack leaves you anyway)
Stay true to what you want and don’t let others change your mind
Go after the one that got away, he was your real love
Adopt a great diet now so it won’t be so hard when you’re old
Everything you do in life comes full circle, remember that.
Treat your parents nice, you may desperately need them one day
Education, education, education
Wherever you go, someone’s watching.
4. Ten things I wish I knew before I published?
How to edit, a good editor, how to use photoshop and what the hell a teaser was and for god sakes how to make one, how to set up a facebook page and make it live, how to dive deeper into a character’s mind, that I would live on 4 hours of sleep many nights, what the reader really wants to read, how to network and what to make of all of this. It’s crazy good and I thrive on it.
5. 10 songs on my ipod? Ooh, you’re too easy on me. Gosh, I love music.
Carry Me Home-Rie Sinclair
Beachin’- Jake Owen
New York Minute-Don Henley
We Are One-Kelly Sweet
Stillborn-Black Label Society
Lucky Man-The Verve
Santa Monica-Theory of a Deadman
Turn of the Century-Pete Yorn
She Keeps Me Warm-Mary Lambert
6. Ten Favorite Desserts:
Holy hell, you would ask this while I’m dieting! Reeces Peanut Butter Cups kept in the freeze, Turtle Cheesecake, Lemon Bars, Snickers, Sonic Blast, gooey brownies, Toll House Chocolate Chip Pie, Chocolate Cobbler, Not Yo’ Mamas Banana Pudding (has to be this one, won’t eat it otherwise), and Coconut Cream Pie.
7. What ten cities do you want to visit or have been there?
I’ve been to many, so I’ll list my favorites: San Francisco, Balboa Island, Milan, Italy; Galveston, Chicago, New York City, Ogunquit, Maine; Los Angeles, Eureka Springs, Arkansas; Dallas
8. Do you enjoy sweet and simple or suspenseful and action-driven books?
Definitely more action driven.
9. Finding your voice: Writing in First Person (or Third)?
I tried Third Person POV and it didn’t come natural to me. I love writing in First Person POV. I try to do it in both main characters for each book. I want my readers to live in the souls of both characters.
10. Booksigning Horror Story?
Oh wow! We had to share tables and the person beside me 1. Took up more than their allotted space and 2. gave away free Tarot Card readings. She didn’t make any headway for signing or sales and I damn sure didn’t with people lined up in front of me for a reading. However, I learned a valuable lesson: rather than suck-it-up, go meet with the organizer-situations can be fixed and rarely final.

12. Character Inspiration:
Dr. Roman Burke’s character was formed by a Neurosurgeon that I knew personally who focused his younger years on his schooling and when it came time to separate work and love, most of the women he met or dated were more interested in his wealth and stature, not his soul. Arm candy was over-rated. Relationships left him mentally whipped and caused him to erect walls. He passed away at a young age and didn’t have “that one” beside him. If I could re-create his life, I would give him a HEA that he deserved, because he gave of himself so much for everyone that he came in to contact with.
I'm a Texan through and through.
While I've lived in various parts of the state, Houston is home now, but Dallas is my favorite part of the state and Austin runs a close second. Let's hear it for the HORNS!
T he hubs and I enjoy having friends over and our place is kindof a hangout...of sorts. We cook and entertain together.
I want my stories to excite the reader. I love it when readers reach out to me.
I have several things planned for 2014. Up first will be my series of Hook-Ups with Ace's Key, Booty Call and Consolation Prize.
I'm launching a standalone novella series called The KISS ME SERIES. Each novella will be sure to deliver snarky or wild and zainey or erotic twist to romance and perhaps a combo of all of it. First up is KISS ME-MY ASS guaranteed to get the temperature up, if you know what I mean. Releasing June 17th. Followed by KISS ME-T HERE and KISS ME-IN THE RAIN.
