Genre:   NA, Contemporary Romance

Kaiya Marlow has always been cautious, precise in every decision she makes. When her dark past threatens to resurface, she decides to take precautions to protect herself by enrolling in self-defense classes at her gym. Her instructor, Ryker Campbell, is the tattooed womanizer everyone warns about. Kaiya attempts to resist Ryker's advances, but the more time they spend training together, the harder it is for Kaiya to resist him. Ryker's view on relationships is simple: strictly sex, nothing more. Haunted by demons from his past, he never allows himself to become attached to any woman. No attachment means no weakness, no vulnerability, no pain. He doesn't realize that his whole world is about to be turned upside down when Kaiya enters his self-defense class. Determined to have her, at least for one night, Ryker sets a plan into motion that will change both of their lives forever. Will love be able to heal their scars, or are they too deep to overcome? Excerpt  (from Mending Scars)
As I entered the bathroom, my eyes went straight to her. Her back was to me as she rinsed her long, dark hair, and water dripped off every inch of her flawless skin. My gaze roamed lower to her sweet ass as I pulled off my muscle shirt and gym shorts.
When I opened the shower door, she turned and gasped, placing a hand over her heart. “Oh my God, Ryker! You scared me!”
Grabbing her hand, I chuckled. “Sorry, baby.” I kissed her palm before pulling her into me, immersing myself in the stream of water and pressing our naked bodies together.
Her hands glided up to my shoulders as I nuzzled into the curve of her neck. Gripping her ass, I nipped at her collarbone while lifting her up. Her legs wrapped around me automatically as I backed her into the tile wall.
Kaiya’s fingers knotted in my hair as our mouths crashed together. Her lips parted against mine as my tongue slipped inside, finding hers instantly and tangling together. “Fuck, you taste so good. I’ve wanted to taste you all night.”
Kaiya moaned in my mouth as my hands roamed over her wet skin before finding her tits. I played with one of her nipples, squeezing and pulling it, making her whimper louder. “You like that, baby?” I bit her bottom lip before sucking it into my mouth.
God, yes.” Her legs tightened around my hips, and she ground herself against me.
I pushed my cock harder against her clit, making her cry out again. “You want my dick inside you?”
Yes! Fuck me now, Ryker.” Her tone was desperate with lust.
I trailed one of my hands down her stomach between us before grabbing my cock and guiding it to her pussy.
Fuck, she’s so wet already.
Teasing her, I rubbed against her and slipped the tip of my dick inside her sweetness before pulling it out.
Kaiya bit my lip when I put just the head of my cock in again. I circled the rim of her pussy, causing her to bite down harder and moan. “Ryker,” she breathlessly pleaded as she pulled me closer to her.
I couldn’t help myself when she sounded like that—her need and want for me evident in every noise she made. I thrust myself inside, filling her completely as we both groaned out in pleasure.
The water rained down on us as I hammered Kaiya against the tile. My mouth found her nipple, and I toyed with it with my tongue ring as I continued to pound into her. She gripped my hair as I savored her, sucking her tit as her sweet pussy hugged my dick.
She feels so good… fucking perfect.
Kaiya’s nails dug into my head as she arched into me. My hands caressed her soft flesh as I drove deeper inside her. I was close to coming, and by the look on her face, she was too.
Her eyes were closed as she bit down on that full, bottom lip.
Fuck, she’s so sexy.
Our wet skin slapped together as I increased my pace, thrusting harder into her, bringing us both to the brink.
I wanted to taste her as I made her come, capture the sounds of bliss she made because of me. I grabbed her face and crushed her lips with mine, opening her mouth with my tongue and slipping it inside.
Fuck, so good.
After a few more thrusts, Kaiya cried out, and her pussy tightened around me. I followed, coming inside her as she trembled against me.
Holding Kaiya up, I pressed kisses along her neck as we caught our breath. “I love you,” I murmured against her skin.
Turning her head, she grazed her lips against mine. “I love you, too.”
Some of her hair clung to her face as she leaned her head against the wall. I pushed the drenched strands back before kissing her again.
Kaiya’s legs had loosened, but as our kiss deepened, she tightened them around me again. My dick started to harden inside her.
Damn, she drives me fucking crazy.
I slowly pumped my cock in and out of her, growling against her lips. “You want more, baby? You want me to fuck you again?”
She sucked my tongue into her mouth. Hard. “Yes, please fuck me,” she loudly moaned.
I smirked and roughly thrust into her, eliciting a gasp of pleasure from her swollen lips. We stayed there in the shower until long after the water ran cold.

Excerpt from The Scars of Us)
When I arrived at the bar Bryce and I typically met up at, I was surprised that he wasn’t there yet. He was normally early.
I took a seat at the bar as the bartender walked over to me. “Hey, Ky. The usual?”
“Please.” I looked around nervously before directing my attention to my phone, checking if Bryce had sent a message that he was running late, but there was none. I wonder where he is.
“And for you?” the bartender asked, peering around me at another customer.
“Jack and Coke,” a deep, luscious voice said from behind me.
I stiffened before turning around and coming face to face with Ryker. He unabashedly appraised me, causing heat to simultaneously flood my cheeks and the juncture of my thighs. “Uh, hi,” I squeaked nervously. Fuck, just kill me now.
Ryker chuckled, obviously amused by my awkwardness. As he laughed, I caught a glimpse of something gleaming in his mouth.
Is that a tongue ring? Oh, God, it is. So fucking hot.
“Can I buy you a drink?” he asked as he moved closer to me, almost pressing his firm body against mine. His arms caged me between him and the bar, causing me to inhale deeply from the sudden proximity. His scent was amazing, a combination of man and clean. I had to stop myself from begging him to touch me.
“Actually, I, um, I’m meeting someone here,” I stammered.
His eyes imperceptibly narrowed; I wouldn’t have even noticed if I hadn’t been so fixated on his face.
Is he jealous? No way.
“Everything okay, Ky?” the familiar sound of Bryce’s voice interrupted.
Ryker’s eyes stayed locked on mine, even though my “date” had obviously arrived. His arms remained in place, even when I broke eye contact to look at Bryce.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Ryker’s a trainer at the new gym I’m working out at now.” I replied, attempting to keep my voice steady, even though Ryker’s closeness unnerved me.
Bryce stepped towards to us, keeping his gaze on Ryker as he approached. He warily stuck his hand out in greeting, “Bryce. I’m Kaiya’s boyfriend.”
“No, you’re not!” I impulsively defended. Shit. I wanted to slap my hand over my mouth because of my outburst.
Ryker’s eyes met mine again as his lips curved up in a sexy smirk. Pulling his arms away, he moved back, taking most of his delicious scent with him. Some of it lingered for a few seconds before fading away I almost audibly sighed from the loss, but stopped before I made a bigger fool of myself.
Get a hold of yourself, Kaiya!
“Maybe I’ll catch you at the gym,” Ryker said coolly as he grabbed his drink off the bar. Looking at the bartender, he continued, “Put her drink on my tab.”
Then, he walked away. What just happened?

About the Author

I am 28 years old and live in the great state of Texas. When I'm not writing, I'm either playing poker or reading. I have 2 dogs, Bella and Oreo, and a cat, Cupcake, who love to cuddle with me while I'm writing.

What inspired you to write The Scars of Us series?
I wanted to write a darker, love story that had a twist that I'd never read before; I always try to make my stories as unique as possible, and I love when there's drama and angst that the characters overcome.
Top 5 things you didn’t know about becoming a published author:
  1. No matter how many bad reviews you get, you never get used to them – they hurt every time.
  2. I didn't realize how the author social scene is so much like high school with different cliques and gossip.
  3. That the process is relatively easy compared to what I thought before I published—I had no idea that people were able to self-publish their work; I thought you had to be picked up by a publishing house.
  4. Marketing and PR is totally exhausting.
  5. That social media is an absolute must if you are going to have any chance at success.
5 Reasons to love my main characters:
  1. They have big hearts.
  2. They each have unique personalities.
  3. They have great senses of humor—they make me laugh all the time.
  4. They're very relatable, each with their own flaws like everyday people.
  5. They think for themselves and learn from their mistakes.
5 facts about The Scars of Us series:
  1. I picked the title before developing the plot; usually I start writing or brainstorming ideas first, then pick a title.
  2. Ryker is based on fitness model Andrew England.
  3. I got the name Kaiya from my friend, who had recently had a baby named Kaiya.
  4. The idea for Scars came to me while I was taking a shower.
  5. I personally performed all the self-defense moves in both books, and actually took kickboxing and self-defense classes.
How do you make your characters believable?
I try to base them either on friends or people that I've met so that they're more realistic and relatable.
Authors you admire:
  1. Jasinda Wilder
  2. Jessica Sorenson
  3. Jennifer Armentrout

  1. I taught Pre-K and Kindergarten before I started writing.
